Fallin Miners Welfare and Social Club is located in the former pit village of Fallin near Stirling, Scotland. It is a vital community hub with deep roots in the coal mining industry Polmaise Colliery (3&4) Established to support the local mining population, the welfare centre has evolved into a key venue for social events, including weddings, baby showers, birthdays and meetings. It serves as a reminder of the area’s industrial heritage, which was marked by strong community solidarity during strikes.
History and Background
- Origin: The village of Fallin was established in the early 1900s to support the Polmaise Colliery, which began production in 1905.
- Miners Welfare Role: The Welfare was central to the social life of the mining community. It provided a venue for leisure, support, and community cohesion.
- Industrial Conflict: Polmaise Colliery was a major site of struggle during the 1984–1985 miners’ strike, with miners fighting to save the last pit in the area.
- Closure and Legacy: The colliery closed in 1987, but the community, supported by the welfare and local groups like Fallin Community Voice, has continued to thrive.
- Modern Day: Fallin Miners Welfare continues to operate as a community hub for social events and gatherings.
The institution remains a testament to the resilience and enduring, tight-knit spirit of the Fallin community, which, despite the loss of its primary industry, maintains its social and historical ties to the mining era.
Fallin Miners Welfare was built by our local miners in 1924 to bring people together during the hardest of times. It was a place of support, solidarity, and community… and it still is today.
For generations, The Club has been a lifeline for local people. A place to meet, celebrate, support one another, and feel connected. However the roof repairs and renewals are now necessary.
We offer a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and have amazing facilities including two function rooms (small accommodating 100 and large 166) are ideal for parties, weddings, funerals etc. We are in an ideal local approximately 10 minutes from Stirling Town Centre. To book a hall or enquire please call 01786 811313 or email info@fallinminerswelfare where a member of staff will be more than happy to help.
